How property changes hands here
Washington County follows Pennsylvania's standard tax sale process.
The upset sale
Property with taxes two years behind is offered at the Tax Claim Bureau's upset sale, for at least what's owed.
The judicial sale
What doesn't sell can go to a judicial sale, where a court clears most liens before it's offered again.
The repository
Property that fails both lands in the repository. Anyone can bid on it at any time, often for very little, subject to the town and school district signing off.
Foreclosures go to the sheriff
Mortgage foreclosures are sold separately at the sheriff's sale, as in every Pennsylvania county.
