How property changes hands here
Allegheny County works differently from most of Pennsylvania. This is the short version.
Unpaid taxes end at the sheriff
Most Pennsylvania counties sell tax-delinquent property through a Tax Claim Bureau. Allegheny County doesn't. Taxing bodies file liens, and the property goes to a monthly sheriff sale.
Foreclosures go there too
Mortgage foreclosures land on the same monthly list. Many cases are postponed for months or years, and Deedplat shows each one's full history.
Public land is sold by request
The URA and the Pittsburgh Land Bank sell their lots by application. Deedplat shows what they own and which lots sit together.
The transfer tax depends on the town
Pennsylvania charges 1% on every sale, and towns and school districts add their own share. In Pittsburgh the total is 5%.
