    How property is sold here

Bibb County follows Georgia's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Georgia guide for how the state works.

    Tax sales

Georgia sells the property itself at a tax sale, by a redeemable tax deed, not a lien certificate. In Macon-Bibb the sales are held on the courthouse steps on the first Tuesday of the month, the owner can redeem by paying the price plus a premium of up to 20%, and the buyer can bar redemption after 12 months. Properties that do not sell can go to the Land Bank and come back in a subsequent judicial in rem sale with a starting bid as low as $2,500.

    Foreclosure sales

Most Bibb County mortgage foreclosures are nonjudicial sales under a power of sale, held on the courthouse steps on the first Tuesday of the month after the notice runs for four weeks in The Macon Telegraph. The deed under power is then recorded with the Clerk of Superior Court.

    Assessed values

The Macon-Bibb County Board of Tax Assessors values property every year as of January 1 and mails annual assessment notices, posted on its website for 2026.

    Transfer tax

Georgia charges a state real estate transfer tax of $1 per $1,000 of the sale price, collected by the Clerk of Superior Court when the deed is recorded; Macon-Bibb adds no local transfer tax.

    Land bank

The Macon-Bibb County Land Bank Authority buys tax sale properties that do not sell and resells them at its own auctions, coordinated with the Tax Commissioner, at starting bids as low as $2,500.
