DuPage County Recorder. The Recorder's online system shows indexed documents and images from March 16, 1961, searchable by name from 1961, by PIN from 1985 and by address from 1995; older records back to 1839 are searched at the office in Wheaton.

Owners and values

DuPage County Supervisor of Assessments (with nine Township Assessors). The county's free Property Lookup portal and each Township Assessor's website show owner, assessed value and property details.

Tax sales

DuPage County Treasurer. Tax sale dates, rules and past tax buyer purchase reports are posted free; the full electronic delinquent list costs registered tax buyers $250.

DuPage County Sheriff's Office, Civil Division. The Sheriff posts free foreclosure listings with sale date, case number, address and opening bid, with opening bids added by 3:30 p.m. the day before each sale.

Parcel maps

DuPage County Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The county GIS offers free interactive maps and a map and application portal covering about 330,000 tax parcels.

How property is sold here

DuPage County follows Illinois's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Illinois guide for how the state works.

Tax sales

Illinois sells the unpaid taxes, not the property, and a buyer who is not redeemed can later ask the court for a tax deed. The DuPage County Treasurer holds one annual tax sale in November; the 2026 sale is November 19, 2026 (and November 20 if needed) in the auditorium at 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton, with the delinquent list published in local newspapers in October. Buyers must attend and bring their interest-rate bids on a USB drive, the lowest rate wins each parcel, payment is due the day after the sale, and owners have 2 to 2.5 years to redeem.

Foreclosure sales

Illinois foreclosures go through the courts, and DuPage County Sheriff foreclosure sales are held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the jail visitation lobby of the Sheriff's Office, 501 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. Buyers pay 10% of the opening bid at the sale by cashier's or certified check and the balance within 24 hours, notices run three weeks in a local newspaper, and listings are on the Sheriff's website.

Assessed values

Nine Township Assessors set values each year, with a full general reassessment every four years (2019, 2023, and next in 2027), and the Supervisor of Assessments publishes the change notices.

Transfer tax

Illinois charges $0.50 per $500 of value and DuPage County adds $0.25 per $500; Naperville adds $3.00 per $1,000 and Aurora adds $3.00 per $1,000, according to the Recorder's municipal transfer stamp list.

Worth knowing

Aurora spans Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties; this page covers the DuPage part, which lies in Naperville and Winfield townships on Aurora's east side.

Worth knowing

Naperville lies in both DuPage and Will counties; this page covers its DuPage portion, where deeds, taxes and sheriff sales run through DuPage County offices in Wheaton.

Worth knowing

The Sheriff advises checking the court file at the Clerk of the Circuit Court, 505 N. County Farm Road, and unpaid taxes and liens before bidding, since a buyer may take the property subject to them.
