Tax sales
The Tax Claim Bureau holds the upset sale in September (September 30 in 2026) and the judicial sale in June (June 24 in 2026). A repository sale of unsold parcels is held in the spring (March 17, 2027 is the next one). All sales are in person at the Crossroads Building, 95 W. Beau St., in Washington, bidders must pre-register, and each parcel sold carries an extra $250 Demolition and Rehabilitation fee.
Foreclosure sales
Sheriff sales run about monthly from February through November, with bidding on the Washington County auction site at washington.pa.realforeclose.com. Handbills, cost sheets and results are posted each month on the Sheriff's Sale page.
Assessed values
Current values come from a countywide reassessment that uses a 2015 base year at 100 percent of market value.
Transfer tax
Most towns charge 2 percent in total (1 percent state plus 1 percent local), while Peters Township charges 2.5 percent.
Land bank
The Washington County Land Bank is linked from the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Washington.
Worth knowing
All three tax sales are in person in the Crossroads Building, and bidders must register about 10 days ahead with a $25 cash fee.
Worth knowing
Online delinquent tax payments shut off shortly before the upset sale, so last-minute payoffs must be made by mail or in person.
Worth knowing
Bidders who back out of a winning bid or disrupt a sale are banned from all future Washington County tax sales.
