Tax sales

South Carolina sells the property at the tax sale, and the owner keeps a right to redeem for a period set by state law before a tax deed is issued. The Richland County Treasurer holds one in-person tax sale a year; the 2026 sale is November 2 and 3, 2026 at the Township Auditorium, 1703 Taylor St., Columbia. Bidding starts at the taxes, costs and current-year taxes, winning bids are paid in full on sale day, and the list is posted as weekly-updated Excel files on the Treasurer's Tax Sale page.

Mortgage foreclosures in Richland County are Master in Equity sales held on the first Monday of each month at 12:00 PM in Courtroom 1 of the Central Courthouse, 2500 Decker Blvd., Columbia. Winning bidders other than the lender must deposit 5% of the bid in certified funds by 3:00 PM that day.
