Parcel maps

KGIS (Knoxville Knox County Geographic Information System). KGIS Maps shows parcel lines, zoning, flood maps and aerials back to 1935, with search by owner name or parcel ID.

How property is sold here

Knox County follows Tennessee's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Tennessee guide for how the state works.

Tax sales

Tennessee does not sell tax liens; the court sells the property itself and the former owner can redeem afterward. In Knox County the Trustee files suit on delinquent taxes and the Clerk and Master of Chancery Court auctions the properties by public outcry, in person in the Main Assembly Room of the City County Building at 400 Main Street in Knoxville; Tax Sale 25 was set for June 2, 2026. The redemption period runs 90 days to one year after the court confirms the sale, and the buyer then receives a Clerk and Master's deed.

Foreclosure sales

Most Tennessee mortgage foreclosures are nonjudicial substitute trustee's sales, held at the place named in the notice, often the City County Building in Knoxville. Notices are published in a local newspaper before the sale.

Assessed values

Knox County's latest reappraisal, mailed in 2026, covered a four-year cycle, and the Property Assessor now follows a two-year reappraisal schedule.

Transfer tax

Tennessee charges a transfer tax of $0.37 per $100 of value (0.37%) plus a mortgage tax of $0.115 per $100 of debt, and Knox County and Knoxville add no local transfer tax.

Worth knowing

The 2026 reappraisal raised many home values sharply, with some nearly doubling after four years without an update.

Worth knowing

The City of Knoxville collects its own property taxes, and city tax sales are also run through the Clerk and Master, so check both city and county taxes on a parcel.

Worth knowing

Tax sale winners can pay in full or pay the minimum bid plus 30% down and sign a note for the balance due within 10 days.
