Where the records are
The county offices an investor deals with in Collin County, and what each one puts online.
Deeds and mortgages
Collin County Clerk (Land Recordings). Deeds and other property records can be searched online on the Clerk's official record search, with a separate historical search for older records; some details are redacted under House Bill 4350.
Owners and values
Collin Central Appraisal District (CCAD). Owner, account and appraised value data are free on CCAD's online property search, and CCAD also posts data exports and GIS shapefiles.
Tax sales
Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector (with the county's Constables). The Tax Assessor-Collector explains the tax sale rules online, and each Constable precinct posts its own sale notices on the county's Constable Sales page.
Foreclosure sales
Collin County Clerk (trustee sale notices). Notices of upcoming trustee foreclosure sales filed with the County Clerk are listed free online, searchable by city and property type.
Parcel maps
Collin Central Appraisal District Interactive Map. CCAD's free interactive GIS map shows parcel lines and links each parcel to its appraisal record.
How property is sold here
Collin County follows Texas's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Texas guide for how the state works.
Tax sales
Texas does not sell tax liens; it sells the property itself at a tax foreclosure sale after a court judgment, and the former owner keeps a right to redeem for a set time after the sale. In Collin County the Constable for the property's area runs the sale, held on the east side courthouse steps of the Collin County Courthouse, 2100 Bloomdale Road in McKinney, on the first Tuesday of each month between 10 am and 4 pm. Buyers need a $10 written statement from the Tax Office showing they owe no Collin County taxes, must pay by cash, cashier's check or money order, and get a deed without warranty; notices are posted at the courthouse, the Constable's office and the county's online Constable Sales page.
Foreclosure sales
Most Collin County home foreclosures are trustee sales held on the first Tuesday of each month on the front steps of the Collin County Courthouse, 2100 Bloomdale Road in McKinney, the spot set by Commissioners Court order. Trustee sale notices are filed with the County Clerk and listed on its online foreclosure notices page; the Sheriff also sells real property under court orders on first Tuesdays at the same courthouse, with notices in the McKinney Courier Gazette.
Assessed values
Collin Central Appraisal District appraises all property at market value every year as of January 1, and mailed its 2026 real property value notices starting April 15.
Transfer tax
Texas has no real estate transfer tax, and Plano, Frisco and McKinney do not add one; buyers and sellers pay only County Clerk recording fees.
Worth knowing
Collin County tax sales are run by the Constable for the precinct where the property sits, so sale details for a specific property come from that Constable's office.
Worth knowing
Properties that do not sell at a tax sale are struck off to the taxing units and can later be bought through a private bid process handled by the law firm Abernathy, Roeder, Boyd and Hullett.
Worth knowing
The County Clerk's Plano office is closed until further notice due to flooding, so in-person recording is handled at other Clerk locations.
