How property is sold here
Lubbock County follows Texas's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Texas guide for how the state works.
Tax sales
Texas does not sell tax liens; Lubbock County sells the property itself at a tax foreclosure sale after a delinquent tax lawsuit and court judgment. Sales are held on first Tuesdays several times a year, including September 1, 2026, and the Lubbock Central Appraisal District posts each upcoming sale on its home page. Before bidding, a buyer must file a notarized Form 50-307 request with the $10 fee in certified funds by the posted deadline, which was August 28, 2026 for the September sale.
Foreclosure sales
Mortgage foreclosures in Lubbock County are trustee sales held on the first Tuesday of the month at the county courthouse, as Texas law sets. The County Clerk posts every notice of trustee sale on its Notice of Trustee Sales page, where each notice can be downloaded free.
Assessed values
The Lubbock Central Appraisal District sets values every year and mails tax statements each fall, with 2026 statements mailed October 23, 2026.
Transfer tax
Texas has no real estate transfer tax, so there is no state, county or city tax on deeds in Lubbock; buyers pay only County Clerk recording fees.
Worth knowing
In Lubbock County the Appraisal District, not the county Tax Assessor-Collector, issues property tax bills and takes payments; the county tax office handles mostly vehicle work.
Worth knowing
The County Clerk's online real property index notes that some information is redacted under state law, so the online copy is not the official record.
Worth knowing
Lubbock Cooper ISD tax bills for 2026 are held until after the November 3, 2026 tax rate election.
