How property is sold here
Nueces County follows Texas's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Texas guide for how the state works.
Tax sales
Texas does not sell tax liens; Nueces County sells the property itself after a delinquent tax lawsuit and court judgment, handled by the county's tax law firm, Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson. The Nueces County Sheriff holds these tax foreclosure sales entirely online at nueces.texas.sheriffsaleauctions.com, generally on the first Tuesday of the month from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central, and the October 2026 sale listed 44 properties. Bidders must register and place a deposit three to five business days ahead, and properties are sold in file number order to the highest bidder.
Foreclosure sales
Mortgage foreclosures in Nueces County are trustee sales held on the first Tuesday of the month at the county courthouse in Corpus Christi, as Texas law sets. Notices of trustee sale are filed with the Nueces County Clerk and can be searched as Foreclosure Notices in the Clerk's free online records.
Assessed values
The Nueces Central Appraisal District appraises residential, commercial and land property every year, and physically inspects about one-third of properties each year under its 2025-2026 reappraisal plan.
Transfer tax
Texas has no real estate transfer tax, so there is no state, county or city tax on deeds in Corpus Christi; buyers pay only County Clerk recording fees.
Worth knowing
Properties that get no bid at the tax sale are struck off and later offered again as tax resale properties at a lower minimum bid that the Commissioners Court must approve; a 2023 resale offered 49 properties in Corpus Christi, Agua Dulce, Robstown and Bishop.
Worth knowing
The Appraisal District reports about 130,000 residential parcels and about 23,000 commercial and land parcels, out of about 211,000 total accounts including business and mineral accounts.
Worth knowing
Written value protests go to the Appraisal District and are usually due May 15 of the value year.
