How property is sold here

Randall County follows Texas's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Texas guide for how the state works.

Tax sales

Texas does not sell tax liens; after a delinquent tax lawsuit and judgment, the Randall County Sheriff sells the property itself at a sheriff sale. Randall County holds these sales twice a year, on the first Tuesday of April and of August, at the Randall County Annex Building, 4320 S. Western St. in Amarillo (north entrance, Elections Office); the next sale is April 6, 2027 at 11:00 AM. Bidders must register with the Tax Office a few days ahead and pay in full at the sale, and the sale list is posted as a PDF on the county's Sheriff Sale page.

Foreclosure sales

Mortgage foreclosures in Randall County are trustee sales held on the first Tuesday of the month in the foyer of the main entrance on the south side of the Randall County Justice Center, 2309 Russell Long Blvd. in Canyon. Notices of trustee sale are posted on the courthouse bulletin board there and on the County Clerk's web page.

Assessed values

The Potter-Randall Appraisal District sets values for Randall County property each year as of January 1, and the Randall County Tax Office mails bills based on those values.

Transfer tax

Texas has no real estate transfer tax, so there is no state, county or city tax on deeds in Amarillo or Canyon; buyers pay only County Clerk recording fees.

Worth knowing

Randall County covers the southern part of Amarillo, which has had almost all of the city's recent growth, while the northern part of Amarillo, including downtown, is in Potter County; check which county a parcel is in before searching records.

Worth knowing

Sheriff sale buyers get a sheriff's deed with no title warranty, the former owner keeps a right of redemption under Texas Tax Code Section 34.21, and buyers are liable for the current year's taxes.

Worth knowing

Properties struck off to the taxing units after a sale with no bidders are listed on the county's Trustee Property list and may be bought later.
