How property is sold here

Taylor County follows Texas's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Texas guide for how the state works.

Tax sales

Texas does not sell tax liens, so Taylor County sells the property itself after a tax lawsuit and judgment. Tax sales are held on the first Tuesday of a month several times a year (in 2026 on March 3, June 2 and September 1) at 10:00 AM at the Taylor County Courthouse, 300 Oak Street, Abilene, and each sale includes both delinquent properties and trust properties that went unsold earlier. The Central Appraisal District of Taylor County posts the sale list ahead of each sale and the results afterward on taylor-cad.org.

Foreclosure sales

Mortgage foreclosures in Taylor County are trustee sales held on the first Tuesday of each month in the southeast foyer of the Taylor County Courthouse and the adjacent upper exterior porch, 300 Oak Street, Abilene, at the time stated in each notice. Notices of trustee's sale are filed with the County Clerk and can be searched free on the Clerk's self-service records site.

Assessed values

Taylor CAD appraises property as of January 1 each year and mails Notices of Appraised Value by about April 1.

Transfer tax

Texas has no real estate transfer tax, so there is no state, county or city tax on deeds in Abilene; buyers pay only County Clerk recording fees.

Worth knowing

In Taylor County the appraisal district, not the county tax office, posts tax sale lists and results, so check taylor-cad.org before each sale.

Worth knowing

The County Clerk only file-marks foreclosure notices; questions about a specific trustee sale go to the substitute trustee named in the notice.

Taylor County administrative offices recently moved to the 1915 Courthouse at 301 Oak Street, 2nd floor, in Abilene.
