Owners and values
Sedgwick County Appraiser's Office. Free online search of property appraisals and recent real property sales, plus the Mobile Land Records parcel map.
Tax sales
Sedgwick County Treasurer's Office. Delinquent taxes can be searched free, and the Treasurer posts the delinquent publication list, a tax foreclosure map app and a free map book 30 days before each sale.
Foreclosure sales
Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Sales. The Sheriff keeps no online sale list; mortgage foreclosure sales are published in a county paper of record and case files are at the Clerk of the District Court.
Parcel maps
Sedgwick County GIS. The free Mobile Land Records map shows parcel lines and measurements, and the ArcGIS Open Data Hub offers map apps and data downloads.
How property is sold here
Sedgwick County follows Kansas's rules, with its own calendar and offices. Read the Kansas guide for how the state works.
Tax sales
Kansas does not sell tax liens; the county forecloses in District Court and auctions the property itself. Sedgwick County's Treasurer holds one tax foreclosure auction a year, recently held online in the fall (the 2025 sale was October 21), and properties go to the highest open bidder with title passing by Sheriff's Deed. Notices run in The Ark Valley News, and the case list, redemption updates and map book are posted on the Treasurer's Foreclosure Auctions page.
Foreclosure sales
Mortgage foreclosure sheriff sales are held each Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room of the Sedgwick County Historic Courthouse, 510 N. Main, Wichita. Sales are advertised three weeks ahead in a county paper of record, the Sheriff keeps no list, and full payment is due at the sale by cash, certified check or money order.
Assessed values
The Sedgwick County Appraiser revalues all real property every year, using a January 1 appraisal date.
Transfer tax
Kansas has no real estate transfer tax, and the state mortgage registration tax ended January 1, 2019, so buyers pay only recording fees ($21 for the first page of a deed).
Worth knowing
Wichita is the county seat and largest city, one of 20 cities in the county.
Worth knowing
Online deed searches cost money (Laredo or Tapestry subscriptions), but searching in person at the Ruffin Building, 100 N. Broadway, is free.
Worth knowing
In 2025 the county filed a theft report against CivicSource, the vendor that ran its October 2025 online tax foreclosure sale, over $1.28 million in unpaid sale proceeds, so check the Treasurer's page for who runs the next sale.
